And when the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “This this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:14-20

Coming to the Lord’s Table is one of the great privileges that we have as a follower of Jesus Christ. Yesterday we acknowledged that when we participate in the Lord’s Supper it is an opportunity for us to reflect on what Christ did for us over 2000 years ago, examine where we are in our spiritual journey with Christ, and also anticipate what Christ is going to do when He returns and establishes a new heaven and a new earth.

Yesterday, we reflected for just a few moments on what Christ did for us when His body was broken and His blood was poured out on our behalf. But today as we look at this passage where Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper, let’s spend a few moments truly examining our walk with Christ.

David wrote in Psalm 51, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”

To know God is to know forgiveness and unconditional love. When we come boldly to Him we know that we will find grace and mercy in our time of need. And we can also claim the promise that if we confess our sins Jesus will be faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness.

Sometimes it can be an unpleasant thing to think about our sin. But when we come before God and seek His forgiveness He will gladly cleanse us and give us a fresh start. Today spend a few moments evaluating your relationship with Christ. Remember that sin is the very thing that will keep us from experiencing the intimacy that God longs to have with us. Confess your sins, Claim your victory, and Commit yourself to His purposes and His ways!
